NEW OCC EDUCATIONAL ENHANCEMENT GRANT DECISIONS

We have come to the end of a successful year. The OCC wants to thank everyone -- teachers, staff, parents -- for all the hard work with our children and throughout the school. We also want to thank you for adjusting to our new method of handling funds from the OCC.

At the end of May, we had announced a new educational grant initiative where teachers could suggest items they needed in the classroom next year. We are happy to report that the OCC voted to approve most of the educational grant proposals. Every teacher who made a request is getting something. There were a few items we felt we could not fund at this moment. We provided details to each teacher.

The teachers submitted many thoughtful proposals on how to enrich their teaching experience. In summary, we are buying LCD projectors, science kits, listening centers, listening devices, pulldown wall maps, an animal exercise pen, curriculum-based books/dvds/videos/games, literacy materials, calculators, classroom supplies, and storage units. We bought musical instruments to lay the foundation for a school orchestra. We are coordinating to fund an improved computer lab.

JOB OPENING WITH OCC BOARD

OCC is in search of a dynamic, organized and enthusiastic Business Manager. The Business Manager is to manage the day to day operations of the organization. This is a part-time position only and pay is $20/hour. We are looking for someone who will cultivate a strong partnership with the school community and board. Will work closely with all standing and ad hoc committees of the Board.
 
Some of the duties include but not limited to:

  • Work closely with the board, especially the treasurers to make sure the daily tasks of financial matters are carried out.
  • Will be the liaison between the community and the board.
  • Will pickup mail daily and respond as needed.
  • Make trip to the bank for deposits.
  • Financial data entry into PTO Manager.
  • Communicate closely with the teachers.
  • Work with accountant for monthly reconciliation of accounts.
  • Advocate for the school and community.
  • Work closely with coordinators of OCC-Sponsored events to ensure that event preparation is going well.

Qualifications:

  • Good leadership, fundraising, partnership development and financial management.
  • Have had success in acquiring agency support through successful grant applications and general fund raising.
  • Have strong and effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be Microsoft Office proficient, i.e. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, etc.
  • Able to work in a stressful situation and feel very comfortable multi-tasking.

OPORTUNIDAD DE EMPLEO CON EL CONSEJO CCO

El CCO está en busca de un Administrador dinámico, organizado y entusiasta. El Administrador  deberá administrar las operaciones diarias de la organización. Esta es una posición de medio tiempo y lleva un sueldo de $20/hora. Estamos en busca de alguien que pueda cultivar una fuerte relación entre la comunidad escolar el consejo. Trabajará de cerca con todos los comités del consejo.
 
Algunas de las responsabilidades del puesto incluyen pero no se limitan a:

  • Trabajar de cerca con el consejo, especialmente con los tesoreros para asegurarse de que las tareas diarias de finanzas se lleven a cabo.
  • Servirá como lazo de unión entre la comunidad y el consejo.
  • Hacer vueltas al banco para los depósitos.
  • Alimentar información financiera al PTO Manager.
  • Mantener comunicación cercana con los maestros.

What is the OCC?

The OCC is the parent-teacher organization at the Oyster-Adams Bilingual School. We raise money, we organize volunteers, and we spend money to enrich the educational experience for all of the students, including the cultural and community experiences. The OCC's budget is separate from the DCPS budget. The Board meets monthly. The Board also convenes community meetings typically every other month. All meetings are open. Check the calendar for the date of the next meeting. For more information (policies, documents, meeting minutes, forms, etc.), please see links on the left.

Que es el CCO?

El CCO (Consejo Comunitario de Oyster-Adams) es la organización de padres y profesores. Nuestras actividades son principalmente tres: recaudamos fondos, organizamos a las plantillas de voluntarios y usamos el dinero recaudado. Hacemos estas cosas para enriquecer la experiencia educativa de todos los estudiantes de Oyster-Adams, incluyendo los aspectos culturales y de la comunidad. El presupuesto del CCO es separado del presupuesto de DCPS. El consejo se reune mensualmente. El Consejo tambien sostiene reuniones con al comunidad por lo general cada dos meses.
