September 15th- October 15th Hispanic Heritage Month to acknowledge the important historical and cultural contributions Americans of Hispanic heritage have made to this nation. The Hispanic Heritage Dinner will take place October 12 Friday at Oyster. The Hispanic Heritage Committee is seeking volunteers to coordinate and host tables representing the nations, If you can help contact Marcelo Morichi at marcelo@morichi or 202-462-9134.
We welcome Fernando Rinc?n Mart?nez, our Spanish support aide who has just arrived from Spain. He has arrived a little earlier than expected and as a result we are still looking for a host family. If you are interested in having him stay with you for the year or part of the year and help you and your children speak more Spanish at home contact me!
Good news! An additional drinking water sample test was conducted to test for the presence of lead in the drinking water at the Adams campus and the review of the lead data collected indicated that the water is safe to drink and no additional measures are required to be taken at this time. As a result, we will be using the water fountains that were installed this summer. Unfortunately, after this week, they will be discontinuing the water delivery.
During the parent meeting held at the Adams campus the feeling was that it was difficult to pick up and drop off at both buildings on time. To alleviate this situation, a request was made that I put in place early morning child care for those parents that need to drop off early and late afternoon care. Ms. Domingo has agreed to provide early morning care (8:00 -8:30 a.m.) and late afternoon care (3:30-4:00 p.m.). Please sign your child in with Ms. Domingo in room 106. In order to pay Ms. Domingo for her time there will be a charge of $10.00 per week to OCA..
October 5th I will host a Parent Coffee at Adams at 9:00 am, in English. I plan these sessions so that we can spend time discussing issues that are of importance to you. Your ideas and preoccupations are very important to me and I would love to hear from you!
Our traditional mini-walks to benefit the homeless are being held at both Oyster and Adams as in the past. In order to have everything in place we will need to have a Commitment Form turned in by October 5th.. All public schools are encouraged to host their mini-walks on Thursday, Nov. 1st. However, for Oyster-Adams we will host it on October 31st and we will tie it in with the Halloween Parade. Please sign your commitment forms that are attached and return them to your child's teacher. I am looking for a parent volunteer that can coordinate at the Adams campus. If you are willing to do so, please contact Evelyn Viera at 202-671-3111.
As a result of the expansion of our school from PK to grade 8, Oyster-Adams will no longer continue Buddy Day at Deal Middle School. If you desire a tour of Deal MS or to visit the campus with your child, please contact the Guidance Counselor, Benjamin Santiago, at 202-373-4435, to make arrangements.

Del 15 de septiembre al 15 de octubre celebramos el mes de la herencia hispánica para dar a conocer la importante contribución histórica y cultural que la herencia hispana ha aportado a esta nación. La cena organizada por el comité hispano tendrá lugar el viernes 12 de octubre en Oyster. Se necesitan voluntarios para coordinar y atender las mesas que representarán a cada país, exhibiendo artesanías y comidas típicas. Damos la bienvenida al profesor Fernando Rincón Martínez, nuestro profesor de apoyo para español que acaba de llegar de España. Él ha llegado antes de lo previsto y por ello seguimos buscando una familia que lo acoja. Si esta interesado en tenerle como huésped durante el año o parte del año para que ayude a sus hijos a hablar más español en casa, por favor contacte conmigo.
Buenas noticias! Un test adicional del agua potable de Adams ha sido realizado para determinar la presencia de plomo y el resultado es que el agua se encuentra en buen estado y es segura para beber por lo que no es necesario tomar más mediciones por el momento. Como resultado usaremos el agua de las fuentes que se instalaron este verano. Desafortunadamente, después de esta semana se interrumpirá el servicio de abastecimiento de agua.
Durante la reunión de padres celebrada en Adams se expuso la dificultad para dejar y recoger a los niños en los dos campus al mismo tiempo. Para aliviar esa situación hemos habilitado un salón para cuidado de niños, ayudando asi a padres que necesitan dejarlos pronto por la mañana y recogerlos más tarde al mediodía. La Sra. Domingo está de acuerdo en cuidar niños de 8 a 8.30 a.m. y después de 3.30 a 4 p.m. Por favor indique si desea que su hijo se quede con la Sra. Domingo esas horas en el salón número 106. Para pagar sus servicios se requerirá un pago de 10 dólares semanales a OCA.
El 5 de octubre les invito a un cafépara padres en Adams a las 9:00 am. Será en inglés. Estoy muy interesada en escuchar sus preocupaciones e ideas.
La caminata en beneficio de las personas sin hogar se llevará a cabo como cada año, en ambos campus. Todas las escuelas realizarán su caminata el 1 de noviembre. Sin embargo para Oyster-Adams se llevará a cabo el 31 de octubre y tendremos que compaginarlo con el festival de Halloween. Por favor rellene el formulario que adjuntamos y devuélvalo al profesor de su hijo antes del 5 de octubre. Estoy buscando un voluntario para coordinar el campus de Adams. Como consecuencia de la extensión de nuestra escuela de PK hasta el 8th grado, Oyster-Adams ya no participará en el Día de Compañero en la Escuela Secundaria Deal. Si usted desea visitar el campus Deal con su niño, por favor póngase en contacto con el Consejero, Benjamin Santiago, en 202-373-4435, para hacer preparativos.
