Cocktail Party to benefit Oyster Creative Activities (OCA) Scholarship Fund at Left Bank, 2424 18th Street, NW, on Friday, September 28 from 5:30-8pm. This is a great opportunity for Oyster parents to spend a few enjoyable hours with friends at a restaurant in Adams Morgan while children are cared for by OCA counselors. Ticket order forms have been distributed through students and tickets are being sold in the Oyster lobby before school. There is also a box in the Adams building main office to drop off ticket order forms. Childcare with OCA counselors, including a pizza dinner, will be provided for a nominal fee at the Oyster building. Any questions, please contact Jacqueline Bouchard at (202) 360-6136.

The Hispanic Heritage Committee encourages all our fun-loving and energetic families (not just the Latino families) to attend our first annual meeting next Tuesday September 25 at 6:15pm in Oyster. The main topic will be the upcoming Hispanic Heritage celebration and other fun ideas. There will be child care provided and pizza for $1 a slice.

Cantares Musical Program Announcement. Music classes will be offered by teachers Jose Sac?n y Adriana Balz?n. The Cantares students will form the Cantares Chorus who will present concerts periodically and will participate in the zarzuela "La Gran Via". Please join me for the Principal's coffee scheduled for and on September 28th at 2:30 p.m. at Oyster for an informal chat with the principal. This session will be bilingual.

October 5th I will host a Parent Coffee at Adams at 9:00 am, in English. I plan these sessions so that we can spend time discussing issues that are of importance to you. Your ideas and preocupations are very important to me and I would love to hear from you!

Please note the very important dates that are coming up in October. The official membership count will be taken on October 5th. The audit has been scheduled for October 30th at both campuses. Please make sure that your child(ren) attend school on these two days. We do not have any field trips planned on these dates. I am sending this to you anticipating that if you have any appointments scheduled for these dates that may require your child(ren) to be out you can re-schedule. The membership count is very important and has an impact on funding for the school.

Please plan ahead - October 8th, Columbus Day Holiday students do not attend school and on October 9th we will hold Parent-Teacher Conference Day (1st Advisory, students not in school).

Our traditional Mini-walks to benefit the homeless are being held at both Oyster and Adams as in the past. In order to have everything in place we will need to have a Commitment Form turned in by October 5th. The Adams Commitment form needs to be signed by parents and turned in 7 business days before the miniwalk. All public schools are encouraged to host their mini-walks on Thursday, Nov. 1st. Student registration is free. We will be providing you with additional information as it develops. I hope you will sign your commitment form by October 3rd so that we have time to compile the forms.
