I want to welcome Mr. Solórzano to our Oyster-Adams family. Joel Sol?rzano will be the counselor working at the Adams campus. Although, I introduced him during Back-to-School night, he has not been able to start until now because it took a while to have his paperwork processed by Human Resources. You will be hearing from him soon. Next week he will be introducing himself to our students in each classroom and he will begin to present his thematic prevention lesson in each classroom the following week. We plan to start with the theme of Building Responsibility - what does it look like? Individual and group lessons will begin shortly.
RIF - Reading is Fundamental, coordinated by Carolina Clarens, is a wonderful program that takes on a life of its own as each child is provided with a book of their choice to take home, read, and keep forever. The student's will receive their books on Thursday November 1st at the Adams campus and on Friday, November 2nd at the Oyster campus.
Remember individual school pictures are scheduled for Thursday, November 1st at both campuses.
Friday, November 2nd is a 1/2 day and our students will be dismissed at 12:15 this will be a record keeping day for our teachers.
As you know on Halloween we host the Homeless Walk this year, in keeping with our theme of one school, two campuses - On October 31, our students from Adams will walk to the Oyster campus to join the younger students during their parade. The Adams students will begin their walk to Oyster at about 1:30 and join the Oyster students at 2:00 p.m. We hope you can join us!
Help needed finding tutors. Our after school-tutoring program cannot get up-and-running without additional tutors. More than 100 students have already been referred by their teachers for this academic help. If you have contacts in organizations that may be able to refer tutors, please contact Sra. Guzman at oysterworks@aol.com
Student Council and Safety Patrol News: Information and guidelines for electing Student Council members and Safety Patrol Team members for grades 2-7 will be given to students, parents and teachers on Thursday November 1st. Students from 2nd grade on up are to sign up for either Student Council or Safety Patrol on sheet-up sheets that will be available in each classroom.
- Grade level teachers will allow time for Student Council candidates to give an oral presentation between Tuesday November 6th and Thursday, November 8th. Student Council elections will be held on Friday November 9th.
- Safety Patrol candidates should return a permission slip form signed by the child's parents by Friday November 9th.
New Student Council and Safety Patrol members selected will be announced the following week at both campuses. Student Council advisors for this school year are: Kelly Barnes, Jodi Cohen.
Please remember to turn in your orders and money for OCC's fall sales fundraiser (food and gift items from the "Let it Snow" and "Broadway Caf?" brochures) to your child's teachers or the school office by Monday, October 29.
We will be moving from a 6-day schedule to a 5-day schedule at both campuses starting Monday- Oct.29th. The schedule for both campuses will be on use at oysterbiligual.school.org or in your child's back pack. Please check it out.

Quiero dar la bienvenida a la comunidad de Oyster-Adams al Sr. Solórzano, que será nuestro consejero en el plantel de Adams. Ya les presenté a Joel Solórzano en la reunión de Bienvenida al Nuevo Año (Back-to-School Night). Pero hasta ahora no ha podido empezar a trabajar debido a sus trámites con el departamento de Recursos Humanos. La próxima semana será presentado en los salones, y una semana después expondrá su programa. Comenzará con el tema "Creando Responsabilidades ". El impartirá lecciones individuales y de grupo que darán comienzo en un futuro próximo.
RIF - La Lectura es Fundamental, un programa coordinado por la maestra Carolina Clarens, tiene como fin regalar un libro a cada alumno. Los estudiantes podrán llevar este libro a casa, leerlo, y mantenerlo siempre como un tesoro. Nuestros alumnos del plantel de Adams recibirán sus libros el jueves 1 de noviembre y en el plantel de Oyster el viernes 2 de noviembre.
Recuerden estas dos fechas:
El jueves, 1 de noviembre se tomaran las fotos individuales en los dos planteles.
El viernes 2 de noviembre los alumnos asistirán solo medio día ya que se irán a casa a las 12:15 pm, este día por la tarde los maestros estarán trabajando en sus reportes.
Como Uds. saben el Día de las Brujas, Halloween, estaremos participando en nuestra caminata anual para la ayuda a los sin hogar. Este año, en honor a nuestra misión de " dos planteles una escuela", hemos programado que el día 31 de octubre, nuestros alumnos del plantel de Adams caminarán a Oyster para reunirse con los alumnos durante el desfile. Los alumnos de Adams darán comienzo a su caminata aproximadamente a la 1:30 p.m y se reunirán con los alumnos de Oyster a las 2:00 p.m. Esperamos que puedan unirse a nuestra caminata.
Nuestro programa de tutorías del plantel de Oyster, dará comienzo una vez que podamos contratar tutores y necesitamos ayuda para encontrarlos. Si Ud. tiene algún contacto en una organización o con algún tutor de forma individual que puede ayudar, favor de ponerse en contacto con la Sra. Viera en la oficina del plantel de Oyster. Hemos identificado más de 100 alumnos que necesitan ayuda en lectura, matemáticas, o en el aprendizaje de español como segunda lengua.
Noticias del Consejo de Alumnos y de la Patrulla de Seguridad. El jueves 1 de noviembre se dará información y criterios para elegir a los grupos de liderazgo para los grados 2? a 7?. Los formularios para solicitar ser miembro de uno des estos grupos de liderazgo estarán disponibles en los salones. Los alumnos se podrán postular para estas posiciones de liderazgo en su salón de clase.
- Los candidatos para el Consejo de Alumnos podrán visitar los otros salones para presentar sus ideas a los demás estudiantes desde el martes, 6 de noviembre al 8 de noviembre. Las elecciones del Consejo Estudiantil serán el 9 de noviembre
- Los candidatos para la Patrulla de Seguridad deberán traer un permiso firmado por los padres antes del viernes 9 de noviembre.
Los resultados de ambos grupos se anunciarán en los dos planteles la siguiente semana. La Sra Barnes y la Sra, Cohen son las coordinadoras.
Por favor recuerde entregar antes del lunes 29 de octubre, las hojas de ventas de comida y artículos de regalo de los folletos "Let it snow " y "Café de Broadway" y el dinero. Podrá hacerla entrega a los maestros de sus hijos a en las oficinas de los dos planteles.
